What to Know About the Total Solar Eclipse in Egypt

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun and blocks the Sun’s disc completely. For a few minutes day turns to twilight, temperatures dip, and the Sun’s corona becomes visible.

The 2 August 2027 eclipse crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Upper Egypt is one of the best places on land to watch it, because Luxor sits close to the centre line, where totality lasts longest.

Exact timing and duration depend on your viewing spot, so we confirm them for each program before it is published.
